I can’t even come close to expressing how much I love being an acupuncturist! I love the women that I get to work with and they make every day special. Patients come in with extreme suffering and we see all different levels of stress on the mind/body. We are a very goal oriented clinic so I’m interested in sharing my perspective on why I’d like to be involved in your health sooner than later!
I’d like to share a typical conversation that I have with our wonderful patients:
“You’re my last resort! Pain has stopped me from doing the things I enjoy and I’m starting to get depressed,” I hear from the distressed lovely patient in the cozy chair across from me. I wonder why this has been going on sooooo long and take a long look at the medication list. “Please tell me everything you’ve been through since the onset of this pain,” I empathetically ask and with an overwhelmed look he responds, “I saw a doctor who reported that it’s not operable, pain medications were prescribed and I did a run of Physical Therapy(PT). I don’t like how I feel on the medications and I’m doing the recommended exercises PT gave me. I can’t even get a good nights sleep lately!”
I respond “I’m grateful to know that you’ve been examined by a doctor to rule out any serious medical conditions and you’ve been working on exercises, but lets work with your nervous system to treat your pain! If pain medications are being used we have to first reduce your need for medications and then fix the reason your body is firing a pain response.”
All in all it’s worth it….. I think you’re worth it! I believe every deserves a chance to regain their bodily functions and enjoy their lives. I just wish I could have a chance to treat more patients BEFORE medications are started. Please share your thoughts. What’s your pain limiting you from doing?
